FOX Lifestyle Hospitality Group Combines Mexican street food and art ‘For the People’
Mike Rubendall is a tattoo artist based primarily in Massapequa, New York, but also in New York City. His resident studio at the Bowery, Kings Avenue, was ranked top-5 in New York City by Inked in 2015, while Huffington Post named him in 2014 as an artist to follow on Instagram and New York (magazine) named him one of the top “city inkers”. He has been featured on VICE as part of Tattoo Age, seasons 2 and 5 of the Ink Master, Tattoo Wars, Prick, was guest editor for Inked, and also featured as part of the Inked spread for Garage Magazine, together with Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst. Rubendall was born and raised in Massapequa, graduating from Plainedge High School in 1995. Mike Rubendall learnt tattooing from Frank Romano aged 17. In November 2005, he opened Kings Avenue, which now employs several regular tattooers. After opening, he has tattooed several personalities, including Evan Rachel Wood and Dame Dash. Rubendall specialises in Japanese, Black and Gray Religious. He has a wait list of approximately a year. Mike’s mastery has exposed him to the public eye. In 2007, Mike was featured on one of TLC’s first tattoo series that showcased the world’s top tattoo artists. That same year, New York Magazine ranked Mike one of the top tattoo artists in New York City. Mike was a featured artist in the 2011 documentary Skin, a project from Garage Magazine. He appeared in the documentary alongside Damien Hurst, Jeff Koons, and Raymond Pettibon. In 2012, Mike was prominently featured in Vice Magazine’s original documentary series Tattoo Age. Mike was also featured in 2014 by The Huffington Post as one of the 15 tattoo artists to follow on Instagram. In 2014/15, Mike was interviewed by HEY MAGAZINE: Modern Art & Pop Culture in France, appearing in a twelve-page spread in issue #19. The magazine features a wide variety of artwork from some of the top artists around the world. Mike has also appeared as a guest judge in seasons two, five, and six of Spike TV’s highly rated program Ink Master. Mike uses these platforms to educate the general public and shed a positive light on the tattoo community that has given so much to him. Mike will have the pleasure of collaborating with Hublot and Sang Bleu during this year’s Art Basel Miami at the Hublot Galerie Boutique for a live tattooing Pop-Up.
Nicole Salgar is a visual artist and muralist of Latin decent. Nicole has always had enormous affinity for Latin folk art, which she believes is undeniably present in her art style. Art and design are both something Nicole sees as a powerful, transformative force which can elevate the practitioners, the people and their communities. Self expression has always been instinctual for her. She found the way to truly communicate that through art. Nicole’s goals as an artist are to continue to create with integrity and transmit these messages.
